How to Test the Local Account Authentication Method

This article operates under the assumption that a captive portal is already set-up, and the Local Account authentication method is selected. If this step has not already been completed, please refer to this article for assistance.

Authentication Methods

 

Once you have completed setup of your captive portal, you can test it following these steps. 

  1. First, Navigate to Users, and click create new users.Screenshot 2024-05-23 4.54.40 PM
  2. Next, enter in an email not already in the system, and click create user.Screenshot 2024-05-23 4.55.03 PM
  3. Next, under the password row, click the blue link displaying asterisks. (*******)

  4. Next, in the distribution drop down menu, select "Send an Invitation via Email".Screenshot 2024-05-23 4.56.21 PM
  5. Go to your email and follow the steps provided to create a password. (Note: if you used the same email you created your IronWiFi account with, instead of instructions to create a password, you will receive an email asking you to reset your password.)

Now that you have successfully created a new user, we need to login to the captive portal with it. 

  1. Open your splash page via the captive portal page. Scroll down to the Portal Settings header, and under the sub header Splash Page URL, click the link.

  3. Click Sign in. You will then be shown a success page stating "You are online."
  4. Back in the IronWiFi console, on the left page navigate to users.Screenshot 2024-05-23 3.23.03 PM
  5. You should see your USERNAME. Also, under LAST AUTH, you should see the date and time you logged in.
  6. If the method is not working, please contact IronWiFi technical support.
